Campaign gains national attention from just one tweet

Friday, April 8, 2016

Our ‘only order what you need’ campaign, which ran from November 2015 until February 2016, has been gaining some national attention.

The joint campaign between ourselves and NHS Southport and Formby CCG saw our medicines management team getting out and about across the borough to raise awareness of the cost of wasted prescriptions – a staggering £2 million in Sefton.

Armed with leaflets and posters the team led a winter tour of community venues and supermarkets, encouraging people to ‘only order what they need’, as well as offering some general cold weather health advice.

We tweeted a photo of the winter tour stall in Formby Waitrose. This was retweeted far and wide by local and national followers and eventually it was picked up by Gayle Wells who writes for Fab NHS stuff and other websites.

Gayle made contact to see if Susanne Lynch, our head of medicine management, wanted to write a blog on the topic, this in turn was noticed by a journalist from Primary Care Today who wanted to interview Susanne over the phone. You can see the results here and this has earned Susanne an invitation to write a regular blog for a partner publication and speak at a national conference in London, which is fantastic news.
