Strand By Me skin care event is a success

NHS South Sefton Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) has been helping people to get ‘skin safe’ at an event in Bootle’s Strand By Me shop during Sun Awareness Week.

Over 50 people sought advice on skin protection and skin changes including moles at the event, held at the community and health shop in the Strand shopping centre.

Macmillan Cancer Support was on hand for the day with a clinical nurse specialist from Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen University Hospital to speak to people about any concerns they had about their skin in the run up to summer.

Clinical nurse at Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen University Hospital, David Foulkes, said: “The event organised by the CCG was a great success and I spoke to a lot of people throughout the day. I also checked and advised on moles and changes to people’s skin. It’s so important for people to cover up and wear high factor sun cream, not only when they’re on holiday but also in the UK where we have already seen some hot temperatures start to creep in.”

Katie Pennington, Strand By Me shop manager, said: “The sun and skin cancer awareness event went extremely well. We were pleased to see so many people calling in to learn more about keeping safe in the sun as well as signs to look out for regarding skin cancer.

“The skin cancer nurse specialist had a queue of people throughout the day wanting to have their moles checked, which was a great service that we could provide. It was brilliant to see people of all ages coming into the shop and seeking advice on skin cancer and sun protection.”

Strand by Me opened in September 2015 and is managed by Sefton CVS in partnership with NHS South Sefton CCG. For more information visit:
